Let's start out with the obvious. Raccoons are lazy, back-stabbing pests. It's a good thing their cute quotient is so high, or they'd be lynched on sight. Furthermore, they do everything backwards. They sleep all day, eat left-over garbage and avoid taxes like the plague. They're the worst kind of North American citizen. If La-Z-Boy made a recliner out of half-eaten bacon, you can be sure a raccoon would never be chivalrous enough to offer that seat to a lady.

Now, to your question. Those frisky loafers (Oxymoron? Not in this case) do hibernate, although their sleep is akin to the torpor of bears. They might wake up, go out and hunt, then go back to sleep. It has to be pretty cold (below 25 degrees fahrenheit) for them to really become inactive. They can't even sleep in winter like normal animals! Raccoons suck.
